Getting It Together

I sincerely hope that the instructions for installing a
Word Press blog on JenniferBecton.com are
at least written in English.

So much more goes into self-publishing than I anticipated. I have had to become an artist, a typesetter, a marketer, a computer geek, a tax pro, a bookkeeper, and a law student.

I spent a great deal of time yesterday looking up information about how to write a consignment contract so that I could offer Charlotte Collins for sale in independent bookstores. The project made me remember how much I love legalese. But the contract is now done, and I’ll be able to get Charlotte in some physical stores. If any of you happen to have any ideas for places to sell my book, I’d sure love to hear about them.

My major project for today–aside from completing some editing and drinking a large hazelnut latte–is to upload the interior of my book for the Search Inside feature on Amazon.com.

I have a few minor fixes to make to my PDF, and then it seems that all I have to do is send it, and magically, it should appear. But somehow, I expect it to be a little more complicated. Everything seems to take more time and effort than I estimated. But that’s OK. This is my dream. I’ll work for it.

And soon, you will all get to take a look inside to make sure Charlotte Collins is the book for you.

I have a few other projects in mind, in which I will become a film editor and computer programmer. In the next few weeks, I’ll be releasing the book trailer of Charlotte Collins. And I am planning to consolidate my blog and website and relaunch the new and improved JenniferBecton.com.

I’ll also be flexing my writing muscles a bit too. I’ll be releasing a serialized online companion to Charlotte Collins!

So keep an eye out!

Oh, and if you see me lying in a heap on the floor, it’s OK. Just let me sleep.

All that work is tiring.

  1. Still, it sounds like you're doing a fantastic job. I'd love to talk to you about the website for authors I'm putting together. I think you would and your book would be a perfect fit for the launch. If you want to know more email me at karenjonesgowen@gmail.com

  2. Why the work is tough now, it will be easier with each book and the rewards will be worth it.

  3. Ha! Thanks, gals! I needed the encouragement. As expected, I found a hitch. I have to verify my seller account before I can upload the files. No biggie, but it takes time. So tomorrow it should be up.

  4. Hey Jennifer, busy, busy, busy, ey? You might want to check out local coffee shops—I found a couple around here that have local author book racks. No contract necessary, but they do keep a small percentage of sales. I also have my book at a wine shop and a lingerie store. They don't even take a cut, but just thought it was a fun idea. So, something to think about.
