Looking Forward

Tis the season for New Year’s Resolutions, but I’m not much of a fan. I hate that everything this time of year seems to be about weight loss, healthy eating, and exercise promises that will likely be broken by February. Bor-ing! Not that I’m against weight loss or healthy eating, but for crying out loud, why can’t we look forward to something, anticipate something wonderful in the year ahead and not start off with resolutions brought on mostly by guilt?

So here’s what I’m looking forward to in 2012:

Whiteley Press

  1. The release of Death Benefits. I worked very hard on this book, and I hope everyone enjoys it.
  2. Writing, editing, and publishing two books: the nonfiction book on horseback riding fear that I am coauthoring with Laura Daley and At Fault (SF3).
  3. Experimenting with different ebook price points in the coming year.
  4. Watching my friends’ novels take off up the charts. (Stop by for lots of giveaways!)

Horse World

  1. Riding my horse on a more regular basis.
  2. Mastering canter serpentines.
  3. Trail riding.
  4. Just hanging out.

Misc.

  1. Relaxing on the weekends again.
  2. Cleaning my house and my email inbox.
  3. Spending time with friends.
  4. Watching every episode of the new Doctor Who.

The past year was frankly fantastic–if somewhat unbalanced for me–and I am looking forward to finding that balance in 2012 and having an even more fantastic year. (On a side note: If you contacted me in the past two months and I didn’t respond, I apologize. I will soon.)

What are you looking forward to in 2012?

  1. Wow! We are both, obviously, brilliant. Although in my Indie Jane post I think I gave myself to mid-January to utterly fail on all resolutions, you must have more stamina than I do.

I cannot wait for Death Benefits. Yay!

I haven’t done the whole Dr. Who thing, although I’ve seen like 5 episodes of the Dr. before this one. I am really looking forward to Once Upon a Time starting again! YES.

  2. I have a motto which goes a little like this, “Anyone who is a Dr Who fan is OK by me.” I’ve been watching since the original series premiered in Australia in January, ’65 (it premiered first in England in November, ’63). I’m a long time follower of the original classic series, and highly approve of what Messr’s Davies and now Moffatt have done with the show since its reboot.

In the tv series the Doctor has been to 19th century England many times, and has even met Dickens, but sadly not Jane Austen (although there is a Big Finish Productions Dr Who audiobook titled ‘Frostfire’ in which the first Dr does encounter Ms. Austen)

My new years reso’s are a little like yours, Jennifer. I also have my own small indie press, soon to launch a second title, and plan to experiment with pricing and publish more titles.
    cheers and happy 2012
    Iain

    1. My husband watched Doctor 4 in the 1980s, and when he heard the theme music from the reboot, he asked from upstairs if it was “that poofy haired guy.” 🙂 And now we’re both addicted to the new episodes. I must also look for this audiobook!

Best of luck on your second title! I’m going to go look up your first.

  3. Agreed! Resolutions are doomed to fail because they always focus on the negative. I’d rather look forward to good things.

    Things I’m looking forward to:

    1) Continued success with His Good Opinion
    2) Editing my Col. Fitzwilliam story and releasing it in late summer
    3) Going to the JASNA AGM in October
    4) Going to San Francisco in November

    1. I can’t wait to see Col Fitz on the shelves, and I’m jealous of your San Fran trip. I have been dying to visit my friend in CA, but it hasn’t worked out yet.
