Another Thank You

Absolute Liability hit another major milestone yesterday, and I want to say a big thank you to everyone who decided to take a chance on a new series by a first-time thriller author. I really appreciate it!

In this economy, I know that every dollar is precious, and I’m honored that you were willing to exchange your hard-earned money for my book. I hope it provided you hours of entertainment.

So thank you again to the 40,000 people who purchased Absolute Liability. I hope you enjoyed it, and I promise to do my best to make the rest of the Southern Fraud series entertaining too.

  1. That’s a great idea, Martha! I hadn’t thought of that. I could combine my two loves: books and horses!

And I’m really glad you enjoyed AL! 🙂

  2. You probably wrote about this on another post, but I love the business model you have behind this series. Did you do your research and found that $.99 is the prime point for readers to buy self-published authors? Or, was it a gamble just to get your name out there that happened to pay off big?

BTW – my son, Howie, told his speech teacher that he wanted to be a publisher, so he could get paid to read all day long. Ha!

  3. I did a lot of price research, and I chose a $.99 price point for the first book in the series only. I plan to sell then next five at a higher price (somewhere in the $2.99-$3.99 range.) My goal was maximum exposure with the first book, and the rest will be earning a living. On average, you sell more books at $.99 but you end up making less money. Recent anecdotal data suggests that indie authors actually make more at prices between $2.99 and $4.99. That seems to be bearing out with my Charlotte/Caroline pricing comparison. Hmmm, that was probably more than you wanted to know. But I still got lucky shooting into the top 100, even with the $.99 price. Lots of indies are trying $.99; it just happened to work for me.

Howie sounds like a smart kid! That’s why I went into publishing too. 🙂

  4. Wow! 40,000!! That is impressive! I think you did the right thing by making AL $.99. Now we are all sucked in and have to read the other 5 regardless of price! 😉 And we can’t get enough of a one Mark Vincent! He alone is reason to buy numbers 2-6!! 😀
